Hand woven by the Sir Lowry's Weavers
This area rug has been hand woven out of the highest quality hand-spun Karakul wool. The high density of wool used in each piece, gives the rugs an incredibly durable and at the same time, luxuriously soft texture while the naturally occuring lanolin in the fibers naturally repels stains. The patterns on the rugs have been adapted from designs typically seen drawn on the houses in Ndebele tribal villages of South Africa.
Each rug has been handwoven by a single master weaver. Each artisan has the opportunity to determine her own work hours, allowing for work-life balance and flexibility. The entire process from spinning to weaving to knotting is done by hand with incredible care, dedication, and time.
