On this throw pillow embroidery is used to replicate a design which we had seen in a traditional appliqué craft form. Appliqué work, in combination with other forms of stitches and embellishments would have traditionally been used in several parts of India to decorate marriage costumes, wall hangings and quilts. The open stitch technique gives the petal cushion cover a lighter feel. The rectangular shape and size makes it perfect for back support!

It takes a several days to complete each piece. While the design and technique are the same, each artisan has her own way of applying each stitch, making each piece unique in its own special way.
The Lambadi artisans are part of a group of around 50 women. Each woman works out of the comfort of her own home, allowing her to maintain a work-life balance.
